This female Black Bear was near the Campground at Big Meadows in Shenandoah National Park. The Rangers were arriving to scare her off because she was too close to the campground. I could see her pleading look. "Can't I just climb up this Oak Tree real quick and get some acorns first?"
Acorns are one of the major food sources for Black Bears as they fatten up in fall to last through the winter. They climb the trees, eat acorns and in the process, they also knock many down for the deer to eat as well.
