The peaceful look in this mare's face is so calming. She is one of the Chicoteague Wild Horses. Most of us remember "Misty of Chicoteague," a book we read when we were young. These horses are officially owned by the Volunteer Firemen of Chincoteague and they are still rounded up every year in July. Selected foals are put up for auction to benefit the fire department. This helps keep the herd healthy and properly sized for the available land
